You Pick your Friends and they Become your Family
If you're new to ActiveRain, you're probably still finding your way. You've been taught to write good content and to read the posts of others. Hopefully, you've learned to respond to the comments on your posts. reciprocate and develop relationships with the members here. It takes a while but the friendships you make here are real and solid.
The first time I met someone I knew online was odd for me. I'm pretty shy. But only for a few seconds. Then I realized that I really knew them already, even though we hadn't shaken hands or hugged.
I recently lost my Father. He was only 76 and it was very unexpected. I was sitting at my desk when they called. I had to immediately shut down everything I was doing and race home to pack a bag for Ohio.
For the next 2 weeks I lived in a fog. To Ohio, to Nashville, to Alabama, to Nashville to Ohio to Nashville.
Somewhere along the coming and going I was able to post something about it on Facebook and then her on ActiveRain. Even before I made it public, my friends showered me with love. Calls, text messages, emails, comments and messages on FB.
Now several weeks later, they continue to send me support. It's an amazing feeling to know that people care about you and continue to reach out. When you loose someone, there really is nothing, or very little, that anyone can do. You have to grow through it. You grow in ways you don't expect.
When things/life is tough it's wonderful to know that your friends love you like family. They're not just "online friends". They're there for you.
I know I'm way more melancholy than most of you are used to but I just want you to know how much you, my ActiveRain friends, mean to me.
