Save Money at the Gas Pump!

Save Money at the Gas Pump! Save money on Gas

Not possible, you say! Here are a few tips a friend just shared with me. At today's prices, it's worth trying.

First, always fill your car up in the morning.

We've all heard this before, but do we remember to do it? The colder the temperature, the more dense the gasoline will be. It starts expanding as the temperature increases.

Always refill your tank when it is HALF FULL. Gasoline evaporates easily when it comes in contact with air. The more air in your tank, the more it will begin to evaporate. Thus, the more gas you have in the tank, the less room there will be for the air.

Save money on Gas

Speaking of air in your tank, DO NOT squeeze the handle to the nozzle tight to fill your tank more quickly. Put it on the lowest pump mode possible. Pumping on high creates vapors. All hoses have a vapor return. If you're pumping fast, creating vapors, some of that will be sent back down the hose into the tank! You're giving them back the gas you just paid for!

Finally, never fill your car when the gasoline truck is there refilling the underground storage tanks. When they pump the new gas into the tanks, it stirs up any sediment or dirt that might have settled on the bottom. You don't want that in your car!

We hope this helps you save a little money!
