Dr. Charlie Hatcher, president of the Board for the Franklin TN Farmer's Market Association, recently announced that for the first time in the 8 years of the Farmer's exsistance the market will be extended throught the winter months, making it a Year Round Farmer's Market!
The Market, located under the shed at the back of The Factory, has been a gathering place on Saturdays for several years now. Open every Saturday from 8am until 2pm, the winter hours will be shorter; from 10am to noon. Organic Locally Owned Produce, one of the mainstays of the summer market is dotted with CSAs like this one from Delvin Farms. CSAs, Community Supported Agriculture, are a great way to make sure that one eats their 5-7 sevings of fruits and vegetables each day! I signed up for this last year and was amazed at the amount and variety of the produce I picked up each week. I say last year because it really was more than my husband and I could eat. We are planning to sign up for a half plan in 2009.
"Local Farmers can sell their products providing quality local produce and protect the enfironment. Being green means the food is grown close, not miles away, saving on fuel." Hatcher says. All of the produce at the market must come from with 150 miles of Franlin or be Tennessee grown.
In addition to produce, one can find vendors selling Organic Meats, Eggs, Cheeses, Baked Goods and Local Arts and Crafts. This Holiday season there will be a special Craft and Art Festival inside the Factory.
Dates and times will be posted on the website.
