Nashville has many CSAs these days. One very popular organization is Doe Run Farm

Doe Run Farm has 21 delivery sites in Middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama. John and Judy McGary have their farm in Petersburg, TN and started delivering produce from their, and 6 other farmers, to Franklin TN over 6 years ago.

 

The McGary family originally grew produce for farmers markets, restaurants and roadside stands. Judy says "For us, the CSA was a good business plan because there's less guesswork involved and it cuts down on waste." 

 

Nashville CSAs Doe Run FarmWith the new Delivery site in Maryland Farms, it's convenient for Brentwood workers and homeowners to pick up their Shares.

 

Doe Run Farm is now offering a Fall CSA, appropriately named Autumn Harvest 2011 CSA Season! There will be a limited number of shares and it's first come first served.

 

The Fall season will begin October 18th and run 8 weeks to December 7th. Register NOW to get the reduced rate. Prices go up on all registrations after August 31! Nashville CSAs Doe Run Farm

This is what a mini Share during the summer CSA looks like. Today's box had Green beans, two types of Eggplant, Patty Pan squash, onions, Cucumbers, Bell peppers, Tomatoes. and a Cantaloupe!

 

Pick Tennessee Products lists 15 CSAs in Middle Tennessee. Pick Tennessee Products is the Tennessee Department of Agriculture's marketing program.

When you buy produce in a grocery store, the average distance it has traveled there is over 1500 miles! Buy joining a CSA, you can be sure that what your getting is as fresh from the local fields as you can possibly get without picking it yourself. By supporting local farmers, you're supporting your community. They live in the area and shop in the area just like you do!
