This Saturday Kick Off the start of Summer at Farmapalooza at the Franklin TN Farmers Market! Bring the entire family and plan to have a fun filled day. There will be opportunities for the kids to learn how to milk a cow, have their faces painted and win prizes. There will be plants and seeds for them to take home.
The Franklin Square Pickers and Tom Grant will provide music all day as you wander through the many booths of crafts, organic foods, homemade pastries, jams, soaps, and numerous other things.
Chef Cyndi will be on had doing demonstrations on Organic cooking. There will be fresh organic vegetables, meats, milk and eggs from local farmers. If you
haven't signed up for one of the local CSA programs it's probably not too late yet.
This year I signed up for a half share. What that means is I pick up a box of vegetables every other week instead of every Saturday, as the full shares do. This is what I got this week: Red Kale, Collard Greens, Broccoli, Green Onions, Strawberries and Lettuce.
There is no better way to make sure you eat enough fruits and vegetables!

Connie - I thoroughly enjoy going to Nashville's farmers market. I will have to go down the road to visit Franklin's market. Thanks for sharing and all the best.
Kenneth - I used to go EVERY Saturday. Now I just go every other week. It's enough.
Connie, We love farmers markets too! Raleigh has a great one that's open all year long... one of our favorite places to go and unwind. I've heard about those CSA programs - our daughter joined one in Manhattan a few years ago and loved it. I'll check them out around here.
Connie - Produce co-ops are growing in popularity here. I'd join one if it was reasonably close to home, Karen
We have a lot of CSA's that deliver to our area. My daughter used to be the produce manager at two of the local food co-ops and we had a share in a CSA as well. She now lives in the UK and they have loads of CSA's and she gets almost all of her food delivered to her door.
Pamela - last year for the first time they decided to keep it open all year. I don't know what the results were, as far as participation, but the summer hops! I love it.
Karen - Being close is a priority! This is right down the road for me.
Cindy - Ours don't deliver, but they have 5 different places and days that you can pick up. Makes it easy for those that live across town. They have really become popular!
This looks like so much fun...I remember the Farmer's Markets in CO, and loved them...always so re-connecting with the land, just being outdoors and around all the wonderful fruits & vegetables & handmade or baked items...a celebration of all things simple and good! Cheers Connie! :-)
Mara - Yes, me too! I get to pick up again this week and I'm so very excited!
Connie how fun I grew up in Tennessee graduated from MTSU I know Franklin extremely well
have a great and successful week
Hi Connie! I love, love, LOVE your local posts! You take great photos and your write-up just make us WANT to be there--even if we're city folk!
Have a wonderful weekend...
Lynn - Franklin has grown so much in the past 10-15 years, you would hardly recognize it! The Saturday Farmer's Market has been such a big success.
Debe - You are way too sweet! I am so looking forward to this weekend. Dry, sunny, low humidity. My kind of weather! LOL
Connie- Sorry to take so long to comment on your blog. I just subscribed and added you as an associate. We run a small organic farm here in Idaho and Chef Cyndi is what I need. Talk to you later.
Kevin - no problem. Just needed to give you a little @#$%. :)
Connie,
If I lived closer, you would see me there!
