Perseverance - Finish what you Start
January 1st this year I posted a blog where I committed to blogging 3 times a week. It wasn't supposed to be a New Year's Resolution, but more of a true promise to my readers. Unfortunately, I have recently "fallen off the wagon". Sadly, it's not just the blogging that has suffered my bad attitude, my running has too.
Many of you know I'm training for the half marathon again this year. It's the Country Music half Marathon on April 24th. Less than 2 weeks away. I'm not feeling prepared. Though I have kept up my running throughout the year and put in the miles I hit a roadblock almost 2 weeks ago and have had trouble getting past it.
This morning as I did my Bible study, I re-read the section on Perseverance. WOW I really needed that. This is what Wikipedia says about perseverance:

The first thing I did after reading my email this morning was to log in to Active Rain. There on the front page was Bob Stewart's post Life by Default.....or a LIFE! By DESIGN (And Win an iPad) challenging me yet again to get with the program.
It's too easy to give up when the going gets tough. I'm tired working too many hours, frustrated with the market, nothing to blog about. Too tired to run, it's too hot (it was too cold just a couple months ago) or my hip hurts. There's always going to be a reason NOT to do it.

Today, I'm going to do both and not complain about it. At 11 this morning I'm going to meet Traci and we'll run. It'll be hot. So what. I'll run a little slower. It's not about the speed, it's about finishing. It's about getting things done.
Guess what. After I had this mental attitude adjustment I got an email. It was from a lady who logged into my website and filled out the contact information. I picked up the phone and called her. SHE ANSWERED. And I asked her if she was looking to Buy or Sell. She said BOTH and went on to tell me that she had read my Blog! I'm meeting with her and her husband on Saturday. After I run of course!

Great story... Sometimes we forget to do the things we should be doing... If we remember what about that "reason" is so important it can bring us back to the basics.
Connie,
Love this example, and it is important to persevere, and it does become a habit to blog 3 times a week. Good luck on the marathon!
Very nice. As humans, how amazingly susceptible we are to distractions and excuses. Thanks for your example of getting back in the groove.
Connie good for you girlfriend!!! You are such an inspiration! I've been doing some of the stuff we talked about in Atlanta because of you. Love how you tied in Ferry's life by default. Good luck with your new client!
That is so cool! My daughter, Michelle, ran her half marathon Sunday. You can do it!
Chris - sometimes I loose focus and just have to get my head back into the game!
Ron and Alexandra - Today was huge running in the heat. It was a shorter but harder run. I did it. I really had to focus the last half mile!
David - very well said. Unfortunately the distractions are many and often unimportant! It's usually the unimportant ones that suck the life out of you.
Pamela - The beautiful thing about our group is that we can help to inspire each other!
Ann - This will be my third. I have hit a roadblock in training each time. But not this close to race!
Connie, You are an inspiration to all. Sharing your "road block" helps so many others. I know you will finish the marathon and anything else you commit to. Good luck and safe running!
Margaret - I am just walking in from doing 6 miles by myself. I cannot tell you what a change in attitude that is for me. I haven't run by myself in months! Hopefully this really is a breakthrough for me. :)
Connie you are so right. Perseverance is a wonderful virtue. I need to make a commitment to riding my bike more. Thanks for the motivation...
Michael - I just want to have your commitment and ABILITY to blog every day! you Rock!
I think it's those weekends and other days off that make it difficult to maintain persistency and consistency. That's why I treat each day like any other. I've always got something to do and always having fun.
Connie - a testament to persevering ..... sometimes the worries of the world weigh heavy on our shoulders and slows us down ..... as in running the challenges of getting to the finish line in life and work are simply met by by putting one foot in front of the other until you reach your goal .....
Thanks For Sharing
Connie I regret when I have to cancel my daily gym routine until I receive a meaningful contact - good for you Karen
Russel - who has weekends and days off? LOL Normally I don't work with a lot of buyers, but right now I'm with them almost every day. That leaves so little down time to think.
Kathy - You're absolutely right. Thankfully the race is this weekend and that will be one thing off my mind.
Karen - My life does get in the way sometimes! :)
