Chihuly at Cheekwood in Nashville TN
Renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, widely regarded as the most innovative glass artist in the world today has brought his craft to Nashville TN.
Chihuly at Cheekwood will be open until October 31, 2010. See his captivating pieces throughout the Cheekwood. Pieces have been installed to create an enchanting wonderland of color, light and form. the Chihuly sculptures actually mingle with nature there in the garden. See the Silvered Red Bamboo "planted" or interspersed in tall stalks of the real thing.

Cheekwood is a 55 acre estate and mansion built by the Cheek family of the Maxwell House Coffee fortune. The gardens consist of 10 special displays with stunning natural landscape. The pathways wind through trees and rolling hills to allow glimpses of the artwork from several angles, often before you get to a particular display. It took 12 professionals, and 20 volunteers 11 days to install this amazing exhibit at Cheekwood. This show was born in 2008 when the Chihuly team came to Middle TN to tour the gardens. They walked the grounds and took pictures and notes to take back to the Seattle with them.

Dale Chihuly, born in 1941 in Tacoma Washington, first started using glass as a student at the University of Washington. In 1965 he enrolled in the first glass program in the country at the University of Wisconsin. In 1968 he was awarded a Fellowship to work in the Venini Factory in Venice Italy. There he learned the "team approach" to blowing glass that he uses today. He co-founded the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle and is rumored to employ as many as 150 "Chihuligans".
From now through January 2, 2011, Chihuly at the Frist will offer his museum pieces such as "Mille Fiori" and "Sea Blue and Green Tower".

Connie!
Looks like October 31 will be here before we know it, and my travel schedule (like I have one....) is not going to get me there!
BUT, I am putting Cheekwood on my "to see" list when we make it to Nashville!
Hugs!
Connie, I have been told that we have to see this exhibit. We actually had a date with friends to go, they made it and we had to cancel. Heard all about what we missed, and will reschedule an evening there. Love the gardens at Cheekwood too.
Thom - Take a day and a half off, drive up, spend the afternoon at Cheekwood, have a nice dinner, and go home the next day. You should be taking time off every week anyway! Don't make me call Ray!!!
Mike - Don't let it get away. It's so well worth the time and now that the weather is better... You'll be glad you did!
I just might have to make a trip to Nashville to see this! Chihuly had an exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and I never made it downtown to see it! Are you going to Raleigh next week, Ms Connie?
Patty, Thom said he missed it too! Come to Nashville, we'll go together!!!! No, Raleigh is not going to happen. I bought a house in June that I'm having to update AND I haven't put my house on the market yet. AND I haven't sold a house in 2 months!
That first one is stunning. I wonder if he's ever been to San Diego.
Connie, seeing Chihuly is a real treat. Our daughter saw his chandelier hanging in the Tower of David and we saw his work at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. He is absolutely amazing! To everyone reading this - DON"T MISS THIS EXHIBIT!
Connie, Your pictures are wonderful! I love Chihuly. I've seen his work at the Atlantis in Paradise Island and at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Here is a link to my blog where I showed the ceiling he did. http://activerain.com/blogsview/1635647/my-trip-to-vegas-2010
How lucky you are to be having him come to your city!
Russell - I can't believe he'd miss a city like San Diego!
Sharon - I agree. I'm going this week to see his installation downtown at the Frist. It'll be smaller pieces, but no less amazing, I'm sure!
Elyse - Following your link right now!
This is very impressive Connie! I'm going to be taking a look at Chihuly's other work. I really like the "marbles" picture. Thank you for sharing.
