Active Adult Communities in Nashville TN - Sumner County
Sumner County now has 4 thriving communities that cater to active adult
living. Located north of Nashville off I-65 and Vietnam Veterans Parkway Sumner County, the popular Lake Community of Middle Tennessee, has been growing strongly for the past decade or more. It's no surprise that there was a need for communities that cater to the 55 and older age group.
All of these communities are within easy driving distance to Nashville and all the area attractions (including hospitals, shopping and the Nashville International Airport), as they have great access to the major corridors not just the interstates. The first community is:
Kensington Green in White House, TN, built by Goodall Homes in Gallatin. These courtyard style condominium homes are designed to offer one level living with the security of their courtyards. 2 car garages are standard as are the open floor plans and large room sizes. The HOA fees include lawn care, water/sewer, and electric utilities. A relatively small community with only 60 properties, this allows the homeowners to know one another and build a tight community of like-minded folks!
Another Active Adult Community by Goodall is Cottage Grove at Twelve Stones Crossing in Goodlettesville TN. Not officially designated as a 55 and older community, Goodall has used the same building guidelines that they use in their Retirement Communities like Kensington Green, Lenox Place and Colonial Village. Goodall prices are very affordable ranging from the mid $150s at Kensington and Colonial and topping out under $200,000 in Cottage Grove.
With rear entry garages and the private courtyards in the back, it's exactly the type of home that one would desire when trying to simplify their life!

This peaceful neighborhood would be a delightful place to live for anyone!
Active Adult Communities in Gallatin is pretty much limited to Lenox Place at this time. Also built by Goodall, Lenox stands out because it has it's own beautiful pool for everyone's enjoyment. Located just off Hwy 109 it's convenient to everything Gallatin has to offer and Hwy 109 is a straight shot down to I-40 and the Airport!
The last, but certainly not less important, Retirement Community in Sumner County is The Vineyard at Twelve Stones Crossing in Goodlettesville. Located just down the road from Cottage Grove, the Vineyard offers a different lifestyle for those who don't want to give up the space they're accustomed to.
These all brick townhouses look more like upscale duplexes with their elegant French Country elevations. These units are considerably larger than what many 55 and Older
Communities offer starting at over 1800sqft and going as high as almost 2700 square feet. Prices start in the mid $200s but tend to be closer to $300,000 and over. The interiors are appointed with many upgrades including granite countertops and stainless appliances in the kitchens.
The Vineyard has it's own lake with fountains and ducks and one can find wonderful walking trails!
Grocery stores and much retail are just a couple minutes down the road, as is I-65 for easy access to Nashville and all that it has to offer!

My parents like to go on Cruises. They recently found a group that meets at a 55+ Active Community and they are all going together next March! They are having dinner with each other once a month before the cruise. I will not be surprised if my folks decide to move to be closer to their new friends. 8o)
Eleanor - It's amazing how people become alive again when they get out of their old life and start participating in activities with people like themselves!
Connie, I think this will be a big market in the coming years and nice to see that communities are meeting the demand for more "active lifestyle" neighborhoods. ~ Susan
Hi Connie...Great idea, the larger units will be popular as many people have a hard time down sizing and giving up prized possession.
Cheers..save home for me :O))
Hi Connie! This is a super review of these 55+ communities! I bet you will gets lots of consumer views of this post. :o)
Susan - They say that the first wave of Baby Boomers will retire in 2011! I would say that these communities will become more important and more competitive!
Fred - That was the problem with the first Builders of this type of community. They didn't understand that retirees still have the family over for holidays and need room to spread out. Especially at dinner time!
Ann - I sure hope so!
Connie--these communities are growing in popularity all over the country. My mother at 87 is just beginning to make the decision to give up her big house. When I get to that point I will go gladly--no cleaning, no cooking, just FUN & friendships.
Thanks.
Mary
Mary - I would have moved to the Del Webb community several years ago if it wasn't across town. I still have to work too many years to start commuting now!
Connie Your review of the community is very thorough and well organized. All of the communities appear to be lovely
Karen - there are so many wonderful choices out there!
