Training for the Country Music Full and Half Marathon Kickoff time for Next Saturday January 8th!
This Saturday at 10am The Team Rio group will meet at Rocketown at 601 4th Avenue South in downtown Nashville to kickoff their training for the annual Country Music Marathon scheduled for April 30, 2011.
Team Rio is sponsored by the Diamond Rio Band and raises money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. The Diamond Rio band members are very involved either by running with the group or cheering them on from the sidelines during the event.
Diamond Rio is a 6 time award winning Vocal Group of the Year. They won the Dove award for Country Music Album of the year in 2010. One More Day is one of the songs people know them best for. Here you can hear Marty Roe and the band singing it on YouTube.
The team is made up of seasoned Marathon Runners to first time Half Marathon Walkers and everything in between. Three new coaches join the team this year: Jill Mongene, Diane Bolton and Tom Jones.
Team Rio Teammates agree to raise at least $250 in pledges for the children of Big Brothers Big Sisters over the course of the 16 week training. Each member is given an exclusive website with a barometer where they can email their friends and family to help them with the fundraising. The barometer lets them track their progress.
Team Rio offers coaching, a 16 week training schedule with group runs on Saturdays, Exclusive discounts at Fleet Feet and a chance to make many new friends!
The Country Music Marathon is a great event with people coming from all over the country to participate. There will be over 20 bands performing that day. This is really a fun way to get in shape for 2011. Because there are people at every level, you don't have to worry about getting in over your head!

Pamela, it's more of a run/walk. I'll run probably close to 10 of the miles with some walking in between. THis will be my 4th Country Music half marathon and 5th total.
That sounds awesome, Connie. "One More Day" is one of my favorite songs. I'm not a runner, but I'd walk with you if I was there. Good luck and way to go!

Heather - Last year I had a girlfriend with me and she wasn't a runner either so we walked most of it. It's still fun run or walk.
