How Does One Comment Disappear?

lost comment

The oddest thing happened on my post yesterday.

I wrote the post and then headed home for the day, like I often do.

When I came in this morning, the post showed 7 comments. I started to respond to each when I noticed that there were only 6.

That's right, 1,2,3,4,6,7 . What happened to 5?

Did someone say something nasty and decided to delete it before I saw it?

Did AR take it down for some reason? Was it spam?

Cleaning up my home page, reciprocation, I see "XYZ commented on your post".  I head over to her blog to leave a comment.

While reading her blog I realized I had not seen her comment on any of my posts. In fact, she IS the missing comment! I don't even know her. Why would she delete her comment?

It's a mystery to me.

If you're really curious, you can email and ask if she deleted her comment. You're much more observant than I am.

Tammie - There were only 7 comments. Easy math!

There are so many 'strange' things that go on here in The Rain!

Connie - I guess I wouldn't worry about it if "XYZ" decided to delete their comment, no big deal. However, if it has something to do with AR messing up, then I would be a little concerned. AR has been doing some crazy things lately. Every time I leave a comment it tells me that I need to be logged in to access this page. Funny thing is, I am logged in.

Connie- I have no idea.  Maybe they deleted it for whatever reason.

Barbara-Jo - I just want normal.

Troy - The post was about recycling Christmas Cards. What could she have possibly said that was offensive????

Kathy - Who knows. My keys stick when I'm here. Nothing works right.

I'm sure it was just spam.  I've noticed that you don't see much spam here anymore in comments.  Email spam is another thing entirely.

Connie, I would be curious too. There are times when I am in a head space that does not feel like me.  That's when I should not be leaving comments because my thoughts are jumbled.  No telling why she deleted the comment.

Sometimes people get caught up in the heat of the moment - especially politics, religion, etc. - and they leave a comment, then regret it.  So they take it down.

Hi Connie.  I am really upset that they deleted my comment. It was brilliant

I am with Tammie I probably wouldn't have noticed. If you know who it is go over and introduce yourself and ask.

Connie, it was spam or something that the commenter changed their mind about.  However, in the latter case, they could have just edited and changed it without deleting the comment.  I guess, you'll never know for sure.

Maybe she is just shy and did not want to leave it out there for the whole world to see.

Dont you get an email for every comment that people leave?

Well who knows and it just isn't that important!

Connie, I'm convinced that there is at least one little gremlin running around the ActiveRain offices in Seattle doing odd little things that make us wonder.  I had a pesky little question mark show up in one of my posts.  The Gremlin.  With help from the support desk, it was exterminated.

Sometimes...and it isn't often....someone will insert a link to their own blog or website in a comment which is a no-no, and it will get taken down by staff if reported by an astute observer....I have been known to email people for doing that.  Sometimes they will adjust the comment, other times, they will delete it.  If it isn't gone, staff will delete it.  I don't know that this is what happened, but it is another scenario.  Hope that helps, Connie

Connie - Perhaps the profile itself was zapped?  I've had that happen before.
